UGANDA 2025
SHORT TERM MISSION TRIP
[Details and application below]
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MARCH 23.
DPC is excited to provide this opportunity for Short Term Missions in the Summer of 2025. Our trips are designed to focus on three key areas:
ENCOURAGE local believers and ministry leaders in the places where we serve.
GROW our own members in their understanding of poverty and of the ways God is at work in the world.
SERVE alongside other Christians who are pursuing Gospel development in their communities.
While we do have an “ideal applicant” for this trip, we encourage all who are interested to apply below.
DETAILS
WHEN: August 15-24, 2025
WHERE: Bukeka, Uganda
WHAT: Downtown Presbyterian Church is partnering with Global Hands of Hope and Suubi Medical Center to host a four day medical clinic in Bukeka, Uganda. Global Hands of Hope is a Christian non-profit which supports sustainable development in poor communities to promote the well-being of vulnerable children.
In 2025, a team from DPC will return to Bukeka to deepen relationships and help host a medical clinic.
Our three goals are to encourage local believers and ministry leaders with whom we come in contact, grow in our understanding of poverty and the ways God is at work, and serve alongside other Christians who are bringing the love of Christ to their communities.
WHO: This trip is geared toward physicians, dentists, and other medical providers. While this trip is geared towards medicine, there are other needs at Global Hands of Hope, particularly in the education field.
PRICE: The total cost per person for the trip is $3,600. This cost includes airfare, lodging, meals, ministry work, and a safari.
Fundraising is encouraged and is an integral part of being sent on a mission trip. Every team member is expected to build a prayer team of at least 3 individuals, and this team might include financial donors as well.
The Missions Committee will also be fundraising for additional trip costs. Some of these funds can be distributed to individuals who need additional support. Any team member is welcome to request additional funds as DPC does not want finances to be the reason someone does not go on this trip. If you would like to make a request for additional funds or have any questions about fundraising contact the Missions Committee at [email protected].
TRAINING: Part of your commitment to growth on this trip is participation in two Short Term Missions (STM) training sessions prior to departure. You are expected to attend both of these trainings. They will be from 9:00-11:30am on two Saturdays prior to the trip departure date. The first of these trainings will be focused on a philosophy of STMs and best practices for our trip. The second training will be focused on preparing our providers for the clinic in Bukeka—reviewing common illnesses and treatments, setting expectations, and learning a few helpful phrases in Luganda (their primary language).
TRAVEL: Group airfare will be reserved for the team by DPC. All team members will depart on Friday, August 15, and return on Sunday, August 24. To travel and serve in Uganda, an updated passport is required.
LODGING: The team will spend the first night at a hotel in Kampala, Uganda. While we are in Bukeka we will stay on the Global Hands of Hope compound. Each person will share a room with another team member. The final two nights will be spent in a safari lodge. Rooms will be air-conditioned. Bedding linens and towels are provided.
PASSPORTS & TRAVEL DOCUMENTATION: A valid US Passport is required for all travelers to Uganda. A single entry tourist visa is also required. Instructions for applying for a visa will be shared with the team.
IMMUNIZATIONS: The Missions Committee supports the immunizations that are recommended by the Center for Disease Control. Visit the CDC’s website for Uganda to review recommended immunizations prior to travel. Consult with your doctor for further recommendations. Vaccinations are not included in the price of the trip.
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MARCH 23.
Our hope is that this application process helps those who are interested to discern whether a trip like this is feasible for their current life circumstances. The process also helps us determine who the team will be for this trip. We ask that you pray before submitting the application and join us in prayer for God’s mercy and grace as we build the teams and plan this trip.
