EXECUTIVE UPDATE FROM
SCOTT HULTSTRAND
Church Property Update
As we shared on Sunday morning, DPC is currently under contract to purchase a portion of the AGFA building parking lot located behind us known as “Parcel D” (pictured above).
This is a rare opportunity to acquire land next to our church building, which will likely be unavailable for a long time once a developer purchases and develops this property. The only reason we have an opportunity to purchase right now is a large development that would have filled all of Parcel D with a large condo complex fell through.
Although our next-door neighbors have been very generous to us on Sundays, the reality is that DPC is at some risk long-term to have enough parking for our Sunday services. We currently have 50 spaces of our own, and this would give us an additional 220 spaces.
The purchase price is set at $6.4 million, which, while significant, is a fair price based on comparable land in the downtown area. The purchase would also involve us leasing parking spaces to the AGFA building during the week, which will help with some of the costs of acquiring it.
We have about 75 days to decide if we want to move forward, with the ability to back away for any reason. In addition to a good bit of due diligence over the next 75 days, we will be working with you, our church family, on what financing this purchase might look like. We will share more about this in the coming weeks, but the current hope is we will be able to finance a portion via a loan, make a substantial down payment with existing funds, and raise the rest of the purchase price from our church family.
Here is what we need from you right now: your prayers! This may be a once in a generation, or even multiple generation, opportunity to acquire this property. It is certainly a lift in terms of expense, but we believe future generations of DPC worshippers will be grateful for our sacrifice now. In other words, while it would be great to have guaranteed additional parking for us now along with flexibility for any future use, we are thinking about this more through the lens of our children and grandchildren and many others we hope walk into our church building to hear the good news of Jesus Christ in generations to come.
Please pray over the next 75 days for clarity on whether to move forward, that we will have unity as a church family about this purchase, and that, if we are to move forward, this would allow DPC to be even better positioned now and for years to come to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ on this corner of W. Washington and Broad. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks! If you have questions, comments, or ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we truly want to hear from you.
2024 Budget Update (as of July 31, 2024)
Through July 31, 2024, we have received giving in the amount $1,529,235, and our annual budget for 2024 is $3,000,000. We have four months remaining to meet our budget, and appear to be headed in a healthy direction at this time. We will provide another update in November/December as to how we are looking towards year end. Thank you for your continued generosity towards the work of DPC in Greenville and beyond!
In 2024 we are allocating about $444,000 to building loan payments as we continue to work towards paying it off, the balance of which is about $7.16 million.
Staff Update
I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Megan Barnes as our new part-time Nursery Ministry Assistant. Megan has already been serving our Nursery Ministry as a Nursery Coordinator and will now be assisting primarily with Thursday Women’s Bible Study in addition to other help with caring for our youngest children at DPC. We are thankful for the commitment she has shown to our Nursery Ministry, and are excited that she is stepping in to assist our growing church family. Megan and her husband, Matthew, and children have attended DPC since 2021. Please send your best wishes Megan’s way!
Megan Barnes
