Serving Greenville
A recent Homes of Hope project

Homes of Hope "exists to provide safe, affordable housing for homeless and low-income families or individuals, while also providing job training/mentoring for men overcoming drug and alcohol addictions."  (From the Homes of Hope website.)  These folks are doing wonderful work to accomplish real change in needy areas of Greenville, not merely treat symptoms.

One ready-made opportunity for serving the Greenville area is through Hands On Greenville, which facilitates volunteering in such areas as hunger relief, service to seniors and children, and revitalization of homes and schools.  HOG requires an initial volunteer registration session (45 minutes), but afterwards makes serving in Greenville VERY do-able.  Some of the non-profit organizations that HOG partners with are:


  • MEALS ON WHEELS, which prepares and delivers nearly 1500 hot meals daily to homebound clients who are unable to prepare their own meals  (local site, national site)
  • LOAVES AND FISHES, which assists Greenville area agencies feed the hungry by rescuing excess perishable food that would otherwise be thrown away (local site)
  • BROOKHAVEN COMMUNITY CENTER, which provides opportunities to read to children to foster literacy (local site)
